Lions knock-out from AFF Suzuki Cup 2008
Monday, December 22, 2008 at 11:13 PM

At the end of the 90minutes, the scoreline read:

Singapore 0 vs 1 Vietnam

That was the second leg of the semi-finals between hot favourite Singapore and a very ill-discipline Vietnam team. Yet, last night the lions lost a match in which they dominate for most of the time. This is football - the ugly side of it.

Striker Nguyen Quang Hai sent Vietnam into their second final in the history of this regional tournament when he netted the winner in the 75th minute of the second leg AFF Suzuki Cup semifinal battle at the National Stadium tonight. The famous Kallang roar suddenly fell silent as the fans watched in disbelief when the subsitute defender make a defensive error that lead to a tap in goal for Nguyen Quang Hai.

At that moment, he brought the lions down. Everyone looked on in disbelief. The ref gave it to the vietnam, no offside was ruled. It was 1-0 to the vietnam team. Unbeaten in 20 matches, Singapore fought desperately for the win after their 0-0 first leg, with prolific striker Noh Alam Shah troubling the Vietnam defence throughout a tense encounter in the city-state. All this are not able to prevent an ill-discipline team to advance to the final. Now we shall back Thailand to win the AFF Suzuki Cup.
